A young mum has been given an award by her college after taking an exam just two days after she gave birth.

Zoe Roberts, 23, from Caernarfon in north Wales, completed her course at Coleg Menai, according to BBC News.

Less than 48 hours after giving birth to her newborn son, Harvey Edwards, she sat an exam for a diploma in social science and her grades were good enough to get her accepted onto an Open University social workers degree course.

Ms Roberts commented: “I must thank Coleg Menai for the support they gave me – they helped me fulfil my dream. They helped pay the child care fees … the qualification has already helped me get a job.”

The 23-year-old has been employed as a support worker for Gwynedd Council’s social services department.

North Wales has a rapidly ageing population, so the care sector is one of the region’s most active industries for employment, as Ms Roberts found out when she got her job.
