City College Coventry principal leaves after lacklustre performance

The principal of City College Coventry (CCC) is to leave after his college was rated “inadequate” in a report by inspectors from education watchdog Ofsted.

Paul Taylor said he was “devastated” at the results and claimed that Ofsted had harmed the school’s reputation by changing the way achievement was measured.

CCC said the Skills Funding Agency, Association of Colleges and board of governors are seeking an interim principle, which they aim aims to hire by July this year.

College bosses said they would implement a performance improvement action plan aimed to increase attainment before the next inspection and are building a relationship with Walsall College, which has been rated by Ofsted as outstanding.

Mr Taylor said: “Three years ago, Ofsted said our teaching was good. The goalposts have been moved, with more emphasis on learning rather than teaching.”

The next inspection at CCC is scheduled for April 2014, by which time the institution hopes to have turned around its performance.
