A college in Warrington has announced a partnership it hopes will get more students into Oxford or Cambridge university.
Joe Brown, who is reading Law at Oxford and Vincent Lister, who is doing a degree at Cambridge, are giving tours around their campuses to pupils at Priestley College.
Both Mr Brown and Mr Lister are alumni of the Warringtonian educational institute and it is hoped students at Priestley will follow in the duo’s footsteps.
Pupils at colleges in Warrington are currently finding it hard to break into the top universities in the country, with many areas of the northern town hit by poverty and deprivation.
Mark Salmon, senior tutor at Priestley College, said: “Hopefully this shows them what can be achieved and proves that they can do it if they want to. It is really important for our students to hear about university from those experiencing it today.”
Oxford and Cambridge have been criticised in recent years for not doing enough to get students from poorer backgrounds into their esteemed institutions.
