The majority of the UK’s students get their first taste of domesticity during their time at university.
This is the suggestion of new research from Endsleigh, which revealed 61 per cent of scholars admitted to cooking their first meal after leaving the family home to complete their degree.
Entitled the 2012 Student Survey, the poll was carried out with the help of the National Union of Students and revealed many university goers are likely to clean for the first time when living in their new digs.
Sara Newell, manager of student markets at Endsleigh, noted the majority of those entering their first year of study will never have lived away from their parents before.
Ms Newell stated: “It’s vital that they learn the basics, such as paying bills, cooking and taking responsibility for their household and gadgets.”
The study also revealed students are increasingly looking to get involved with regular extracurricular activities – such as taking part in sport or volunteering – in order to make the most of their time at university and to make more friends.
