People in the UK worried about the prospect of paying back their student loan appear to be in good company.
This is because president of the US Barack Obama, speaking on his campaign trail, has revealed him and his wife Michelle took a long time to settle what they owe.
It seems the Democrat leader was trying to connect with the country’s young voters as he told pupils at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill of his struggle.
He stated: “Check this out, all right? I’m the president of the United States. We only finished paying off our student loans about eight years ago.”
The Daily Mail calculated this means Mr Obama and his partner were only able to pay what they owed after running for – and emerging victorious from – 2004’s Senatorial race.
It also suggests Mr and Mrs Obama were 42 and 40 years old respectively when they were finally able to settle these debts, with the former having been a state senator for seven years and the latter employed as a University of Chicago Hospitals executive.
