Oaklands College is Hertfordshire has received its best ever rating from Ofsted. Inspectors from the government watchdog last week rated the college as an overall good, having visited the College in November. The positive appraisal of the Colleges teaching demonstrates the progress which has been made since its last inspection in 2005, when it was rated as satisfactory. Oaklands College has five campuses across Hertfordshire, including those in Borehamwood, St Albans and Welwyn Garden City.
The Ofsted report not only praised the teaching at the College, saying that pupils were challenged by teachers to learn and make good progress in a number of school subjects, but said that students enjoy college life in a safe environment. Specific areas of the curriculum received special mention in the report, including health and social care and performing arts and media. These subjects are taught to pupils of all ages, including those taking GCSEs and A-levels . The report also pointed to the potential for further improvement at the college.
Mark Dawe, principal and chief executive of Oaklands College, labelled the rating as an important milestone, and praised both staff and pupils for helping to ensure the college had progressed.
