Tue, 26 Jan 2010

A team of students from Exeter College have won the 2010 Student Enterprise Challenge . The competition was held at the University of Plymouth, educating students about how to set up a business . It is hoped that the fast-paced business competition will increase the employability of students and raise their aspirations.

Sixty students took part in the competition, in ten teams of six. The school pupils were asked to develop, plan and present a business strategy for a real business scenario, and were told to consider the impact of the current economic climate on their proposal. They then had to explain their proposed marketing strategy to a panel of business experts.

One of the experts, chief executive Max Goodison, said the competition was helpful in reducing the gap between business and education . The competition was set up by the Working Knowledge Group, and first took place in 2006 under the name Yomping the Nations.

Dean of the University Partner Colleges, Dr Colin Williams, lauded the competition, and spoke of his pleasure at seeing student skills developing throughout the day.

The winning team from Exeter College are currently studying for a foundation degree in television production .
