Pupils in the Salford area are to benefit from a new scheme being launched by Trinity Business Training the business training unit of Salford City College . Trinity is to create a new apprenticeship service giving 16-18 year old students the opportunity of employment in the form of support roles working alongside the colleges staff. Ten students have so far been given apprenticeships in roles varying from estates and central services to marketing .
The scheme is expected to prove popular among students, many of whom will have just completed their GCSEs at school and decided against taking A-levels. Each apprentice receives a salary for working full-time at the college while studying for NVQs in Business Administration . It is hoped that the scheme will boost the employability of the students, and give the pupils an interest in business.
Trinity Business Training hopes to expand the scheme across Salford, having received good feedback from managers in the college about the behaviour and attitudes of the apprentices once they begin work. Chief Executive of Trinity Business Training, Graham Pennington, said the scheme offered an alternative route to pupils achieving their potential. MP for Salford, Hazel Blears, has also backed the programme.
