Cambridge has held another successful Open Cambridge and Bridge The Gap event. More than 5,000 people took part in the event over the course of the weekend, held at the University and colleges . There were free talks and tours around some of Cambridges most impressive buildings, gardens and libraries . The 4.5 mile Bridge The Gap Charity Walk took place on Sunday, with 2,500 participants, raising tens of thousands of pounds in the process.
This was only the second year that the event has been held, having been introduced last year as part of a national programme of Heritage Open Days. The idea behind the programme is to give the public access to the educational buildings which are usually either closed to the public or charge for admission.
The Bridge The Gap event, however, is in its eighth year, as walkers toured several colleges including the Universitys Museum of Zoology . The walk is expected to have raised at least as much as the £42,000 total achieved last year. The proceeds are given to the Arthur Rank Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care to adult parents, and Press Relief, a community fund founded by Cambridge Newspapers Ltd.
