A new government report has recommended the closure of three secondary schools in Gloucestershire. Should the report be adopted, it will see the closure of Bishops College and Central Technology College in Gloucester, as well as Wanswells Vale of Berkeley College. Pupils would need to be transferred to other local schools if Gloucestershire County Council decides to implement the recommendations in the next month.
Officials and teachers at both Bishops College and Central Technology College have supported the recommendations, which suggest the creation of a new academy school to replace the two outgoing colleges. However, Aidan Farrell, head teacher of Vale of Berkeley College, has voiced his disappointment at the report, claiming the ongoing existence of the school is vital to the success of its students . Vale of Berkeley College currently has 300 students and Mr Farrell believes they would find it hard to be successful elsewhere.
Schools Secretary Ed Balls commissioned the report, which was conducted by Graham Badman. Mr Madman has previously enjoyed a number of educational roles, and is the former managing director of children, families and education at Kent County Council .
